So ya just downloaded a car template and a DDS converter, spent 8 hours paintin up your new ride, screwed it up and realized ya overwrote your template, downloaded it again and started all over. Then ya installed your DDS converter and you're sittin there starin at the screen wonderin what the hell you're gonna do with this stuff now. Well, it's very simple in a complicated sort of way.
First ya save your new car as a .psd or .psp file. It's simpler if you use the name that you're going to install in the NT04 program. For instance if your name is Hot Rod and you want to put the car in your Stacker #23 folder here's what ya do. After you're all done paintin, save the file with a name like
Stacker23 - Hot Rod1.psd
Now open up the DDS converter program and navigate to the folder where ya saved the new car and double click on it. When the program ends you'll have a nice new .dds file with the same name as the .psd file.
Ok, you say, that's all well and good but what the hell do I do with it now?
Ya gotta put it in the appropriate folder so NT04 can see it. So, if your car is Stacker23 - Hot Rod1.dds you'll have to make a new folder called Stacker23 - Hot Rod1 under C:\Program Files\EA Sports\Nascar Thunder TM 2004\Season04\Vehicles\Dodge\Stacker23 and copy the .dds file into that folder.
Now you've done this but it still doesn't work right in NT04. Well, you didn't make a .txt file to tell the program what your car is. This is pretty simple. Just go into Notepad and create a file with the same name as your car: ie Stacker23 - Hot Rod1.txt and put the following information in it:
Description="Hot Rod's New Ride"
Painter="Hot Rod"
(Of course, you can use any description ya want. I just used "Hot Rod's New Ride" as an example. Don't take me literally all the time ya bastages!)
Save this .txt file to the same path that you just saved your .dds file to. Now when you go into NT04 you actually see your car! Hey! That's sooo fargin cool! But those rims are hideous.
That can be fixed. Poobah has some cool wheels that ya might be able to talk him out of. All ya gotta do when ya get em is copy the rim file into your folder where your new car .dds and .txt files are and rename it to be the same as your car file name with one small addition. It'll look like this:
Stacker23 - Hot Rod1Rims.dds
Now when ya go into NT04 your car has some sweet lookin mags on it. Now you're ready to take that sucker out on the track and totally mess it up!
Oh! But wait! No one else can see your masterpiece! It just looks like a stock Stacker 23 car to them! Yeah, they need to get a copy of your .dds and .txt files.
Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the main folder that holds all your cars. For the above scenario it'll be C:\Program Files\EA Sports\Nascar Thunder TM 2004\Season04\Vehicles\Dodge\Stacker23
Right click on your new car's folder ie Stacker23 - Hot Rod1 and if you have WinZip installed on your puter you should see an option in there that says Add to Stacker23 - Hot Rod1.zip Click on that sucker and then e-mail the zip file out to all your racin buds so they can see what you been wastin your time on this week!
Cheers and happy drinkin!
